Hi Everyone!

First let me say this is x-posted like a mofo!!

OK moving on!

I sew a lot, I don't care much for my machine and I am very interested in getting a new one

Here is my question...

I want to get a sewing/emobrodiary machine combo. I am new to the world of embrodiary and a combo machine so I need your help.

Does anybody have one that they woudl recommend or some decent resources and to check out what the different options may be?

I appreciate your help!!

howdy there- my intro [30 Dec 2004|02:02pm]

spiderallis
Hello there, I'm Allison, I live in Dearborn and spend a good amount of time in Detroit, attend Wayne State and crochet like mad. I've been really antisocial for the last year or so, mental problems that no one wants to hear about so I'll spare y'all. I sew, crochet, make hemp and beaded jewelry, and I like knitting but I've not been doing it long enough to really know what I'm doing, one scarf and a couple hats all in 'learning' ie-garter? stitch, but it's fun. Got an airbrush for xmas from the niftiest guy I've ever met, so once I figure out how to use it I'll be airbrushing the crap out of everything. Looking forward to getting to know other metro-D people that like crafty things, maybe trade some of my creations for yours? If you'd like to see some stuff I've made:
crocheted stuff and sewn/reconstructed stuff and hemp stuff I've got more stuff made, and some of the stuff pictured is no longer in my possession, but that's some of what I do. Have fun and as many hugs as you'd like- Al

I am unfortunately unsure if I am going to be able to make it tonight. I've just had to spend some, ahem, "quality time" in the bathroom, either from something I ate or perhaps it's part of my ongoing health (or lack thereof) issues. I have a slight fever as well. I'm drinking some fluids and seeing how it goes - but - if I am not able to make it, my plan was just to continue where we left off last time with "getting to know you" since we had a smallish turnout last time.

Also, I'd like to set the next meeting up for March 21st if that works for everyone.

I'm off to take some Pepto and hopefully recover here, but if not, please enjoy and I am very sorry. This just struck in the past hour and I'd hate to subject anyone to it.

XOXOXO
Trase

announcement:

this sunday meeting: i can not do it. there is another party in my house (oscar party) and it was scheduled way before, without my knoweldge:(.

moreover, the person who started the group said that only way i could participate in it is if i dont' speak about certain subjects. since i can not tolerate such a request, i can not be part of this group. (note: i dont' dislike the person, just the request)

:) if you still like to do something creative, like painting or clay, my house is open to you.

it does not have to be an organized meeting! indeed, the whole idea is to just do things.

like going trash hunting (around michaels!) or spending a day scrapbooking. anyways, we should plan going trash hunting. since atleast one other person is interested in that.

you all, sorry about the sunday.:) i hope you have fun watching Oscars.

I have to apologize for slacking with the planning on this group. I've been on medical leave due to an as-yet-unexplained illness and it's kept me feeling pretty crappy. But, we have a meeting scheduled on the 29th and I'll be damned if I miss it! :)

One suggestion was that we vary the location each meeting from East side/West side, and since we met in Ferndale for our first meeting, perhaps we can choose something on the east side this time.

There is a cozy little coffee house on Gratiot, just south of 696, called Trixies, (map) that I think would be a nice meeting place for us. They are open from 6 pm to 1 am on Sundays. They do have poetry readings starting at around 9:00 pm so we would have to be done with our business before that, but they would welcome us to stay for the poetry if we'd like, or not.

I'm thinking meeting around 7:00 there on the 29th. What say you? :)

How many knitters and crocheters are out there? How many interested in learning?

This is just somthing that i've been thinking of doing, but it would be great if we could get a group of crafters involved...
There are actually several different charity projects that i think would be really worthwhile to be involved in.

My favorite is:

The Chemo Cap Project

You can check out a few more ideas here:

ImagiKnits Charity

I'm sort of excited about the chemo cap one. There are so many things you could do. If you sew, knit, crochet, even beading or decorating a pre-made bandanna or somthing. There are so many kids and adults in hospitals all over the country that don't have anyone but hospital staff looking out for them... Let me know if anyone else would be interested.

Hi Everyone,

I have some exciting news (at least, I feel as though it's exciting)! ;)

Today, I officially registered our own domain.

http://www.craftoomel.org/

I haven't got anything out there in terms of content yet, but watch for updates in the coming weeks. I am still on medical leave due to some health issues, and I am going to try and work on it since all I can do is really lay around right now anyways.

Features I would like to implement:

  • Calendar of Events (our own and those of interest to us)
  • Message Boards (so that even those who do not want to join LJ can join in our discussions)
  • Index of craft projects that we do as a group for reference purposes
  • Photos from any of our meetings or events
  • A "Here's How To Do It" instructions section that members can contribute to if they wish to.
  • Not sure if I can do this, but try to feed the LJ community onto the site so that it can be accessed directly from the craftoomel.org site as well.

You may be wondering why I've chosen to do this, when we already have the LJ group and the Yahoo group. Here are the reasons: Not everyone is an LJ'er or a Yahoo member. While these are great tools, they aren't necessarily used by everyone who might be interested in participating in our group. If we have our own site, and get indexed in search engines, more people will be able to find us if they search for say "craft circle in SE Michigan." Additionally, my husband and I own a small web hosting company, and so we can host the site ourselves, which gives us more freedom to do what we want, as well as the assurance of knowing we control the uptime on the server, etc. So when LJ goes down for a couple of hours, you'll still have someplace to go and discuss crafty goodness with everyone! ;-)

Do you have more ideas or suggestions? Let me know! :)

Cheers,
~Trase

More Detroit Crafters [05 Feb 2002|11:49pm]

fandangogirl
Hi guys! I've recently joined Craftster.org. Another group of people in the Detroit area are working to meet up with each other. I posted there telling them about Craftoomel. The person in charge of getting everyone together suggested that both groups might want to meet up sometime. Here's the thread.

Thanks to everyone who came out for our first meeting, katester, fandangogirl, and a special thanks to maryshelley for transporting me to and from since I can't drive right now, that was really sweet. :)

Although we were few in number at the meeting, we have many ideas that promise to make our future meetings fun, creative and exciting! Lena maryshelley has offered to demonstrate some polymer clay techniques to the group, including image transfers, at our next meeting. We are also looking at the possibility of making "fairy bears" for kids in the hospital in the future, preferably around non-holiday times, since so much attention is paid then, we thought it would be nice to surprise them "just because." :)

We are looking at Sunday, February 22nd, or Sunday, February 29th for our next meeting. What would work better for you?

Poll #238640 Craftoomel the Second

Are you planning to attend the next Craftoomel meeting?

Yes
6(100.0%)
No
0(0.0%)

If you plan to attend, which date would work best for you?

Sunday, February 22nd
2(33.3%)
Sunday, February 29th
4(66.7%)

Please vote within the next week or so, that way we can make definite plans. Hope to see more of you there and join in the fun! :)

Plea for assistance :)

As you may or may not be aware, I have been home on medical leave due to some kidney issues. Because of this, I am on medication that I'm not allowed to drive while taking.

If at all possible, I'd like to find a ride to our meeting on Sunday. I know I'm a bit out of the way (9/Gratiot), but I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me out in this regard? I won't normally need this, but with my current state of health, I'm breaking down and asking for some help. :)

Let me know...thanks! :)

Here is a really cute, crafty project if anybody is interested. From the NotMartha website, these magnets are made from magazine cut-outs, round magnets, round glass thingys(the kind you can buy to put in the bottom of flower vases or fish tanks), and silicon glue. I'm thinking of trying it myself.

Make really cute marble magnets
(i couldn't link right to the page for some reason, so just click on the "martha's minion" icon and go to "stuff to make" and you'll find the magnets.)

Craftoomel Meet and Greet

When: Sunday, January 25th, 7:00 p.m.

Where: Javahutt, Ferndale, MI (map)

Who: Members of Craftoomel, those interested in joining a crafting/artsy circle in the SE Michigan area.

Why: The purpose of this meeting is just to get to know one another since many of us haven't met in person yet. Feel free to bring along any examples of your craft/art speciality for show and tell! :) It will be a relaxed, fun atmosphere. We'll talk about what we do, what we'd like to do, and decide on when/where to meet next month for our first official crafting session together.

Looking forward to meeting everyone! Hope to see you there!
